ABOUT THE DERBY PTA
Mission Statement
Who We Are
The Derby PTA brings together parents, guardians, teachers, staff, and community members with a shared goal: supporting Derby students and enhancing their middle school experience.
One of Derby's greatest strengths is its active and engaged parent community. Through volunteering, fundraising, and advocacy, we help create opportunities that enrich learning, strengthen school spirit, and foster meaningful connections among Derby families.
Whether you have time to volunteer, resources to share, or ideas to contribute, there is a place for everyone in the Derby PTA.
What We Do
The Derby PTA supports students, teachers, and families through programs, events, and initiatives that enhance the educational experience and help provide resources that are not funded through the Birmingham Public Schools district.
Some of the ways we support our school community include:
📣 Communication & Community Building
Through our website, email communications, social media, and PTA meetings, we help keep families informed and connected. Our PTA meetings are open to all Derby parents and guardians. Be sure to visit our calendar for upcoming meeting dates and events.
🐉 Dragon Donation Annual Fundraiser
The Dragon Donation is our primary fundraiser and helps fund more than $15,000 annually in educational programs, teacher grants, student activities, and community-building events.
Every donation directly supports Derby students and staff. Contributions are fully tax-deductible and make our programs possible. Visit our store to donate now!
🍎 Teacher Grants
Each year, the Derby PTA awards grants that support classroom innovation and educational enrichment. Funding may be used for technology, instructional materials, special projects, professional development, and other initiatives that benefit students.
💚 Teacher & Staff Appreciation
We celebrate the incredible teachers and staff who make Derby such a special place. Throughout the year, we provide meals, treats, appreciation events, and special recognition opportunities to express our gratitude.
🌱 Environmental & Community Initiatives
The Derby PTA supports programs that encourage environmental responsibility and community engagement. We are proud that Derby has earned recognition as a Michigan Green School, an achievement made possible through the efforts of dedicated students, staff, and parent volunteers.
✨ And So Much More
From school events and volunteer opportunities to student enrichment programs and special projects, the Derby PTA works throughout the year to strengthen the Derby community and support student success.
